During World War II, the iconic white dancing horses of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna were commandeered into a secret Nazi stud farm to serve Hitler’s war effort.
The beauty of the white Lipizzaner quickly became a symbol of Aryanism; the purest of breeds.
Horses are elegant, graceful, slender. Words often used to describe idealised female beauty. So when a British woman was held in Dubai over a Facebook post describing her ex-husband’s wife as a horse, I wanted to explore the irony of this insult, to confront our perceptions of beauty and expose the darker narrative under the surface.
This collection features vintage prints of female beauty needle-pounced with dancing Lipizzaner horses.
